The Oregon Collections
The Oregon Collections began on a drive to the Oregon Coast. Traveling through the cool, dark forests of the Coast Range, surrounded by every shade of green—dusty columns of light barely reaching the forest floor. Emerging from the shade of the woods to a dazzling view of the ocean—teal and sea-green waves tipped with silver. And then back into the woods toward home. I scribbled on a scrap of paper as I drove—“to the coast and back”—imagining a necklace with sparkling sea colors in the middle, flanked on both ends by the muted greens of the forest. Working on that necklace started a chain reaction of other ideas, popping like flashbulbs in my mind’s eye.
Soon I was playing with the rest of the Oregon palette, too: the dusty greens and golds of the high desert; the myriad blues of the lakes and rivers; the lush berries and flowers of the Willamette Valley; the sparkling ice crystals of the snow-capped volcanoes . . . . and most ubiquitous of all in my part of the state—the subtle winter rains in every shade of gray and green. Many of my favorite materials are perfect for these pieces: citrine, lapis, garnet, labradorite, and more. . .
Go Out and Play
Go Out and Play represents a different source of inspiration and a different feel. The inspiration for this collection comes from the materials themselves. Fun and funky fused glass, wildly bright colors, whimsical beads, found objects, quirky pendants, metals of all sorts . . . . Sometimes a girl just wants to have fun, and that’s what this collection is all about.
